Welcome to the Georgia Bulldog Club of Jacksonville! First off, I want to say thank you for joining and we are ready to welcome you with open arms to the greatest Dawg Family in the country! My name is Jim McCarthy, and I am so grateful, and honored to serve as this year’s club president. Fun fact about the club….it is the largest bulldog club in the country since 1946!
A little bit about me…..I was born in Chicago Illinois, but grew up right here in Jacksonville, FL and attended Bishop Kenny High school. After my time at BK, I had the privilege of attending the greatest University in the land…the University of Georgia! I was there from the summer of 2017 to December of 2021 when I graduated from the Terry College of business. I was lucky enough to work on staff for the football program as an equipment manager every year I was there. I was a part of the 2017 SEC Championship team, Rose Bowl win, Two sugar bowl victories, one peach bowl victory, 4 SEC championship game appearances, two national championship game appearances and of course…..one BIG national championship victory against Alabama on Jan 10th 2022. I bleed red and black and thank the good lord every day that I had the chance to attend the University of Georgia and to this day, believe that it is one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my life.
I have been active with the club since my graduation in 2021 and will tell you that it is an incredible group of people who all come together over a shared love and passion for UGA. You will be able to create lasting friendships and great memories at our meetings and watch parties throughout the season. Seeing recurring members weekly and new faces at each meeting is truly a special feeling for myself and all the other officers of the club. We love to have a good time at our meetings but we also have a deeper purpose in mind when we get together….
One of the main goals of the club, outside of having a great time rooting on the dawgs, is to raise money for the Vince Dooley Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in 1988 in honor of Coach Dooley’s 25th year as Head Coach of the Dawgs. The purpose of the scholarship is to help provide additional funds to send local graduating seniors to UGA by off-setting the rising costs of out of state tuition. This hits close to home being an out of state student and it is an honor to be able to impact the scholarship at this level because creating an opportunity for a fellow Florida kid to attend UGA is a dream of mine. Giving back to the place that helped me create so many great opportunities for me in my young life is a top priority of mine.
I am especially excited about this year because of the incredible group of officers we have put together. I have the utmost confidence in each of them to deliver great results in their respective positions and know that all of them truly hold the club in a high regard and want what is best for the Bulldog club of Jacksonville and the members. What more can you ask for!? I cannot thank them enough for their help and support throughout this year.
Finally, I encourage everyone to follow our club Facebook and Instagram pages to receive updates on time and locations for our weekly meetings and watch parties, as well as to get a sneak peek at future guest speakers, additional events, and fundraising opportunities.
I am looking forward to a fantastic 2025 with all of you! Welcome to the Georgia Bulldog Club of Jacksonville and as Kirby Smart says……Keep the main thing the main thing. Go Dawgs!
Jim McCarthy,
Club President 2025
